Chasing Liberty

Prior to 2020 elections, I would often split my vote between Republican and Libertarian candidates, supporting local LP candidates and voted for Trump in 2016 to prevent the butcheress of Waco TX from becoming president. After Trump came into power, I watched him fill the swamp instead of draining it. I watched the size of government and spending increase dramatically instead of the promised decrease. War and global occupation continued.
Something else happened, where the GOP became far more radicalized in socially conservative Christian nationalism. No longer content with stealing our money, the right wing sought more control over every aspect of our lives, from what 1st Amendment speech we can access, to what occurs in our private bedrooms. By the 2020 election, I could no longer in good faith, pull the lever for Republicans in any shape or form.

Things I have always believed:

I have always felt that adult citizens should be able to love and marry whoever they want.

A crime without an identifiable victim is not a crime.

If women can dress in most any fashion they want and no one cares, the same should apply to men and transgender people.

While I could be considered a minarchist, what laws we do have to manage a civilized society should apply to everyone equally. End qualified immunity for all law enforcement officers, prosecutors and judges.

As for joining the LP National, I didn’t plan to, but I have seen enough of the internal conflict to realize that if we want to remain the party of principle, we are going to need voices who uphold personal liberty over those who want to project personal moralities in authoritarian fashion. So I have signed up for lifetime membership.
