LPTexas Exposes The Truth About Sex Work

DALLAS, TX - The Libertarian Party of Texas (LPTexas) is proud to host “Freedom Follies - Sex Work: Rights & Respect” on the evening of Saturday, November 11th at the Westin Dallas Park Central in Dallas.

This event will combine an evening of entertainment from burlesque troupe Ruby Revue with special guest Delta Asher Hill (a.k.a. Molly Smash) shedding light on the relationships between sex work, politics, and society.

"This event is the first of its kind for a political party here in Texas and I'm proud that we're shedding light on decriminalization and bodily autonomy, bringing sex work out of the shadows to empower those otherwise subject to abuse, enslavement, and prosecution."
– Whitney Bilyeu, Chair of LPTexas

Sex work is often called “the world’s oldest profession”, but despite that it is one of the more stigmatized and misunderstood.

Governments throughout history have attempted to ban it unsuccessfully, and in doing so have often caused even greater harm to everyone. Laws regulating sex work are often nonsensical, making acts that consenting adults could engage in freely a crime if money is exchanged, making them non-criminal again if they are filmed. And though they claim to exist to stop abuse and exploitation, they frequently drive sex workers into the arms of criminals where they are more likely to be the victims of the very abuses they claim to deter.

The Libertarian Party has always supported the rights of consenting adults, and in 2018 - with the help of organizations supporting the rights and safety of sex workers - it formally adopted a plank to the national platform opposing criminalization which states the following:

“The Libertarian Party supports the decriminalization of prostitution. We assert the right of consenting adults to provide sexual services to clients for compensation, and the right of clients to purchase sexual services from consenting sex workers.”
