February 2021: Love Letter To Libertarians

LPTexas News: February 2021

A Love Letter to Texas Libertarians

Dear LPTexan Valentines,

You make us happier than property rights and a free market. Consider this newsletter your valentine's card from us, with plenty of sweet treats nestled inside. Enjoy!

County News

Since the LPTexas Convention in August 2020, we’ve appointed 10 Temporary County Chairs to revive or initiate the growth of LPTexas affiliates!

The leaders and volunteers of local county parties are on the frontlines of growing the Libertarian Party.

To highlight your local county party in this newsletter, email summaries of your events with pictures to [email protected]

See our growing list of affiliates and get involved locally by contacting your local County Chair.

Legislation Updates

The Filing Deadline for the 87th Session is Friday, March 12th. All members are encouraged to ask their State Libertarian Executive Committee (SLEC) representatives for updates on new bills for relevant issues and inform them of concerns.

Official Texas Legislature Online

The best source of all Cannabis bills can be found with our coalition partner "Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy". There is currently one bill identically filed in the House and Senate, so it may have a chance to be voted on first. HB439 & SB151 is a decriminalization bill for marijuana & marijuana concentrates.

Contact Your Reps To Vote YES for HB439 & SB151!

Candidate Spotlight

Steven R. Harris is the former Vice-Chair of the LPTexas and Chairman of the Board of the Hutto Economic Development Corporation. He served on the Hutto Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as the Bond Advisory Board.

Hutto's a small, but rapidly growing town. The former mayor won with just 588 votes!

Donors have contributed over $6,300 towards his campaign. Please consider helping him reach his campaign fundraising goal of $10,000!

This special election to fill a vacancy is March 6, with early voting starting February 17th. It's less than a month away!

  • Early voting: Feb. 17 - Mar. 2, 2021 (excluding Sundays) 8 AM to 6 PM
  • Election Day: March 6, 2021 - 7 AM to 7 PM

Volunteer Spotlight

Not everyone may be aware of this, but our entire staff is composed of Volunteers. Each of our fellow Libertarians involved in the state party do so at the expense of their valuable time, without any financial compensation.

Because of this, we'd like to give special thanks to Kasie Dailey for putting together the LPTexas Newsletter. Through her hard work, our monthly newsletter is back!

As we go into 2021, the Libertarian Party of Texas is looking to get more people than ever involved in the political process. Becoming a volunteer for the party is easy and oftentimes already fits into things you are already interested in.

Our biggest needs for the spring include lobbying during the legislative session (calling/visiting your representative) and block walking for local candidates in your area.
